Cooking School Continuing Education

from: Karlie Bestler

Continuing education in cooking is becoming more common with culinary professionals. While most individuals may graduate culinary school with hopes of becoming the next famous chef, it is not that simple and the greatest chefs often continued their culinary education in various ways.

Continuing education in cooking is a great way to learn about exotic styles and techniques of cooking or to prepare for managing one's own restaurant. Those looking to learn exotic and alternative cooking methods may travel abroad to learn from great chefs from around the world.

Those who already have an associate's degree in cooking can continue their education and pursue a bachelor's degree in hospitality or business management. Some individuals may seek out computer courses to stay abreast of technology changes involving systems that aid in day-to-day restaurant operations.

Regardless, continuing education in cooking is a great way to make you more valuable in the world of culinary arts. Options for continuing education in culinary arts are numerous.

The food preparation industry is a booming business. There are currently more than 500 trade schools, colleges, and universities offering programs in the culinary arts. The number expands each year as new schools open and established schools start offering programs in the culinary arts, and some schools have begun to offer online culinary arts programs.

Colleges and universities offer certificate and degree programs that are geared towards working adults. Some programs include hospitality management, food science, computer systems, and the like. Additionally, many schools offer online cooking school programs, online culinary arts and cooking home school programs that can be taken at one's convenience. Other options include culinary arts workshops and one-on-one training with chefs that specialize in non-typical cooking styles.

Some of the more popular online culinary arts related continuing education programs include:

Computer/Information Systems
Dietetics
Food Research
Food Sales & Marketing
Food Styling & Media
Restaurant and Hospitality Management
