Gourmet Cooking While Camping
from: Karlie BestlerGourmet cooking and camping don't sound like they should go together. Yet, there is no reason to believe that you can not have a great meal while you are camping in the outdoors. Depending on the type of equipment that you have, your tastes and the recipes that you use, you can definitely enjoy gourmet cooking at a campsite.
Your goal will be to find tips an tricks to help you with gourmet cooking for camping so that every step of the way you have the best results. While you can find recipes to use throughout the internet, consider these important tips while looking for recipes for gourmet cooking for camping. Before you write off gourmet cooking at a campsite as too hard, remember these important tips and you are sure to be successful.
1. Start with food safety. Since many foods will require refrigeration, only take along foods that you can keep safely for gourmet cooking at a campsite. This may mean bringing along a cooler or other unit that can keep foods cold or it may mean choosing recipes that do not include foods that need to be kept that way. Not only is it unsafe to bring foods along this way, but it can also be dangerous to your own recipes as they won't come out good at all.
2. Choose the right cooking method. If you want to cook over an open fire pit, do so but make sure that you adjust cooking times and temperatures in your gourmet recipes to match. You can often rig virtually any pot or pan over an open fire, though, so this in itself is not difficult to do. Yet, you will definitely want to consider the right method for gourmet cooking at a campsite. You can take a grill with you, prepare meals off a hot plate or even over that fire if you would like.
3. Simple yet tasty food is going to provide the best results for gourmet cooking at a campsite. After a long day hiking, you will not want to have to spend another hour preparing dinner. But, putting together a great crock-pot meal that is gourmet in flavor works well. Look for meals that don't require a lot of utensils, a lot of ingredients or even a long time to prepare if you are not up for doing all that work.
Gourmet food while camping is something that you can take advantage of when you dedicate your time to preparing ahead of time. In many ways, your favorite meals can be prepared just the way that you like them!
